When Roli announced last year that it was re-manufacturing its MPE Seaboard controller keyboard , I found it striking that it did not take advantage of the relaunch to add a more compact option to its catalog. It is true that at that time they already marketed the Lumi model , but the concept of its backlit keyboard is quite far from the Seaboard model, and it was also a recurring request from its customers. Requests that have finally been heard, because Roli has anticipated the future arrival of the Seaboard Block M , which will be an MPE keyboard like the large model... but smaller.

MPE controller keyboard with 5D Touch technology, the same rubbery finish and capable of the same expressive flourishes as its older brother, the Seaboard Block M only seems to differ in two things from the Seaboard Block: the first, and most obvious, that it presents a more compact 24 keys ; the second, which dispenses with the connection for pedals that the four-octave model does have. Otherwise, everything seems to be still there, from the integrated battery (10 hours of autonomy) and Bluetooth connectivity , to the USB-C connection and the MIDI output in minijack format.

And regarding its MPE capabilities, and as I have already mentioned above, we have Roli's patented 5D Touch technology that is capable of recognizing up to five types of movements: Strike, Press, Glide, Slide and Lift , thus allowing great control over those instruments compatible with MPE. Additionally, users can customize the various speed curves available to adapt the response of the Seaboard Block M to their tastes and needs. And thanks to the ADN connectors, it is possible to connect several keyboards together, to expand the range of notes, in addition to other devices from the company.

The package will include Roli Studio , a powerful synthesis, sound design and production environment that takes full advantage of the expressive capabilities of the Seaboard range; Roli Studio Drums , a virtual instrument aimed at exploiting MPE technology but applied to the creation of rhythms, and a $50 voucher to download additional sound packs.

Price and availability
The new Seaboard Block M will be available from March 2024 at an official price of €349.95 . From Roli they indicate that the number of units for reservation is limited.
